What We Do
The AMTB Trails Project originated from a shared challenge encountered by all adaptive riders. Beyond physical obstacles such as tree gates, mandatory drops or narrow bridges, the biggest challenge is finding details about what will be encountered on offroad trails.
Our goal is to make it easier for adaptive riders to find trails to ride. This will be achieved through conducting assessments and assigning trail ratings, along with offering design advice and trail signage.
Vision
To improve trail access and the riding experience for adaptive mountain bikers.
Mission
We collaborate with adaptive riders and trail partners to assess, rate and mark offroad trails. We also create standards and best practices for rating, assessment and marking of adaptive trails.
About Us
We are a passionate group of riders who saw a need and decided to take action. Adaptive mountain bikers typically do not have access to relevant information regarding which trails are adaptive-friendly, which trail systems have accessible entrances and facilities, and a number of other important details that can make or break the experience for adaptive riders. This lack of information is a barrier.
After recognizing this need, we formed a group of individuals who want to change the way adaptive riders have access to information. Led by adaptive athletes and supported by members of the riding community, we are on a mission to provide accurate, necessary information. This information allows adaptive riders choose their trail experience and helps all riders to understand more clearly the specifics of the trail.
Many trail leaders are finding that the trails they currently have can be easily shared with the adaptive community. Sometimes minor changes need to be made, and sometimes they are ready to ride as-is. Our group can help assess the adaptive-friendly state of current trails, make recommendations, and share the word about which trails are appropriate for adaptive riders. From there, the rider is empowered to choose their desired trail experience.
